blog-bff

Here’s a couple of things about me you might like to know about if we are going to be blogging friends forever {BFF}!

:: I have terrible grammar and I’m a horrible speller. I jack up every FB status I write {writing a post takes me forever with all the editing I do because of this}.

:: I never make my bed

:: I love to checkout at the Self checkout at Walmart, I love to scan my items.

:: I love Loreal Volumous Mascara and Ponds Cold Cream {my aunt is 55 and has no wrinkles}

:: I love french toast with BUTTER flavored syrup {that’s good eating right there}

:: My fridge always has something rotting in it {my fridge mats tut photo was something I staged so it would look all pretty for the internet}

:: I always have about 5-6 loads of laundry to do

:: I am also tech stupid-I’m still trying to figure out how to work icloud and update my operating system on my iphone and iPad {i have ZERO storage left}.

:: I iron brand new curtains before hanging them {to include shower curtains}

:: Vacuum lines in my carpet make me  very HAPPY {I stole this}

:: I laugh loud…and sometimes…I laugh so hard no sound comes out at all {my kids usually say “breath momma”}

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

What do I need to know about you since you are my blogging friend forever?

Tell me something good!

painted backsplash

DSC_0244

We moved into our home 2 1/2 years ago. It’s a beautiful house, it fits our family perfectly and it was priced just right.

The thing is, homes that are nice in size and nice in price, are usually boring on the inside. No bells no whistles.

WHICH IS ALRIGHT BY ME!

It’s a blank canvas…to do with as I please.

I saw this painted wall paper tutorial on one of my favorite blogs. I had saved this project onto my pinterest board as a ” I WILL DO”{one day} and I did.

{ I did use guidelines {Emily did not} when lining out my pattern.}

This is what our kitchen looks like now:

This is what I hope to have one day…

XO, Asia.

so darn cute chalkboard tag & Grateful Day 5/6

diaper bag/ gift tag

Nov 5:

I’m grateful for my husband Mr.Marine. This is been a tough year for us, but I’m grateful that his is a Christian man who over the years I’ve seen grow into even a better man. We are far far far from perfect, we get on each other last nerve, and drive each other insane sometimes. He’s given me 5 beautiful children, a home, a provides me with a life where I’m capable to stay at home and raise them. Even with my long list of flaws, he loves me and I love him.

Nov 6:

I’m grateful for my church. It has opened a door into a world I never knew I wanted for myself. I am truly amazed by the people it has brought into my life. I’m also grateful that I’m learning more about the BIBLE and it’s word, all of life’s questions are all answered in one book…if we just took the time to listen and do as it commands. I’m still learning and failing daily, but I know I’m loved by Jesus…for the bible tells me so.

NOW FOR SOME FUN CRAFTY STUFF!

I love chalkboards, even before they were cool. I had my husband paint one in our girls room about 5 years ago, and all thanks to Pinterest convinced him that one in our kitchen would look FABULOUS!

It does.

Now it’s all the craze, chalkboard art is everywhere.

I was in Hobby Lobby picking up some stuff when I came across, these chalkboard cards. They sell tags to…but they were more expensive, no thanks.

I grabbed some of these the other day because I wanted to make a diaper bag tag for my new diaper bag I just bought.

This is how it turned out:

FABULOUS!

I love it. I just made one for my friend EM for her baby boy O {its soooo darn cute}.

They aren’t just for diaper bags, I’m going to make these for my christmas present tags as well.

Wanna make one, well than ladies get your supplies ready!

Just for the Boys {Framed Initial Tutorial}

painted letter

I heart Pottery Barn {I think I’ve mention them before, a lot actually}. I love getting inspiration from their catalogs.

The thing is, I have almost 5 kids; I can’t run out to Pottery Barn and shop to my hearts desire, and that’s ok. I find making things myself to be therapeutic, and gratifying.

We are expecting baby No.5 {Mr. Jasper} in November. All four our kids have their own rooms, but we decided that the two younger boys would share since they are only 2 years apart, and it’s mega big {it’s the bonus room}.

I wanted their initials in the room somewhere, so I made two huge wooden signs out of pallets that I was going to paint their full names on, but now I’ve decided to paint a bible passages.

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of pictures on Pinterest with initials made of crayons, which was my original plan for this project. Plans changed while at Hobby Lobby because I saw wooden letters, and that’s when the project took a different direction.

FRAMED INITIAL

Supplies:

::Paint color of your choosing {as many or as few as you’d like}

::Wooden frame {we chose 12×12}

::hot glue gun

::paint brushes

::wood initial

::paper plates {to pour paint on}

NOW THE FUN BEGINS:

separate frame

::Step 1::

separate your frame

::Step 2::

paint the wooden insert  {we painted it white and we did 4 coats}

::Step 3::

while step two is drying start painting the actual frame { we only did one coat on ours, we wanted washed look}

::Step 4::

paint your letter {we did three coats, as I finished one coat on the letter I return to the insert to paint an additional coat}

LET ALL 3 Pieces dry for 2-3 hours.

::Step 5::

hot glue the back of the letter

Center the letter on the painted wood insert {ours is white} as best you can.

::Step 6::
Assemble your fame back to gather.

Now…

Find the perfect spot in your little ones room, than

::write a small message to your child on the back of it with marker

::hang it

::and enjoy forever!

Day 3: The coolest spot in the house just GOT EVEN COOLER-Fridge Mats {tutorial}

DSC_0347

I was reading a favorite blog of mine {iheartorganizing} when I came across one of their post/giveaways. They were giving away FRIDGE COASTERS, what are fridge coasters you ask,

It’s these…

{via iheartorganizing}

AREN’T they the cutest thing ever!

I wanted some, so I went to the website {www.fridgecoasters.com}

They aren’t badly priced{$25} and you can get some really cool prints.

BUT

I FIGURED I CAN MAKE THESE..but out of what was the question.

Than it hit me…Cheap plastic place mats! I know what your thinking…GENIUS!

I went to walmart- they have cheap mats {$0.99}, but their prints aren’t to die for…enter TARGET {I should’ve know better- I’m a Target Snob}

Target had these for $1.99 a piece, I grabbed 4 {so my fridge coasters were $8 {plus tax}!

::FRIDGE MATS::

::SUPPLIES::

::sissors

::4 cool placemats

:measure JUST the glass NOTE: the place mat will not be the exact size of the glass, it’s a tad smaller. I just pulled it closer to the front::

:: use a non permanent marker so you can wipe off you line::

::kids drawing marker worked well::

::keep these scrap pieces for the side containers:

::you will need to trim them so they can fit properly::

::BEFORE::

::AFTER::

::CLOSE UP::

LADIES, your fridge is begging to be made over!

::yes we drink a lot of tea in this house::

What do you think?

::Asia::

Day 2: book pages + desk + modge podge =awesome {tutorial}

stain

When we started our company 6 years ago, we purchased all of our office furniture from Target. Buddy and I always comment on how well the furniture has held up, we even bought a matching coffee table. Isaac plays with his toys on it, he climbs on it…but you’d never know from looking at it. So, if kids don’t ruin this furniture… what does? You guessed it, MOMMA! Isaac was or I should say “is” in the phase of plugging and unplugging things in. I have plugins throughout the house, most I keep up high; except the one underneath my desk, and one day I found Isaac trying to play with it. Instantly I grabbed it, placed it on my desk and we left the office.  I normally don’t sit at my desk, I do more now with my new computer, and blogging…but back than not so much, so it was a good  week before I noticed this…

Yup, that’s right it fell over and leaked. You’d never guess that plugin oil would strip stain the way it does, it goes down to the wood {I’m not the only one who has done this, my friend M has done it too!}

So what do you do to fix it

re-stain it…no

paint it…I’m not so great at painting furniture soooo, no

cut a piece of wood the size of the desktop and paint that…ew ugly no.

So what do you do…oh yeah pile your crap all over your desk so you can’t see.

No there must be a better solution…

I had a great idea,I wanted to make sign for our office with our company’s name on it. My thought is to modge podge book paper to cardboard and than paint our logo on it. Than I thought, I wonder if I could modge podge paper to the top of my desk.

I DID

It turned about even better than I could have imagine!

Of course I’m married to Buddy Downer…so when he saw me in the process he quickly said “WHAT ARE YOU DOING??!!”

By the end he was signing my praise {which made me feel great} and even wants me to do his desk!

::SUPPLIES::

::Old Book::

::paint brush {not a foam brush}::

::Modge Podge::

Easy Peasy!!

{modge podge one side from corner to corner}

{flip it over, press it side down with your hand. Lift the paper  and modge podge directly underneath it}

{smooth firmly with hands again}

{lift corners an add modge podge where needed, re smooth with hand}

{repeat alternating paper directions. Also choose sheets that don’t have have chapter headings, as well as the half typed pages}

{DO make sure you pages are aligned with the edge of your desk, any pages that hang over are subject to getting ruined}

{Also your paper with not be completely flat, there will be some wrinkles, that’s okay they dry out smooth}

{once your desk is fully covered with pages, re modge podge the entire top}

{let it dry…for about 5-6 hours}

{while I was doing the desk, Isaac was doing this}

{Buddy is going to put a small coat of Poly urethane on top to make it more durable}

{decorate and enjoy!}

What do ya think?
