so darn cute chalkboard tag & Grateful Day 5/6

diaper bag/ gift tag

Nov 5:

I’m grateful for my husband Mr.Marine. This is been a tough year for us, but I’m grateful that his is a Christian man who over the years I’ve seen grow into even a better man. We are far far far from perfect, we get on each other last nerve, and drive each other insane sometimes. He’s given me 5 beautiful children, a home, a provides me with a life where I’m capable to stay at home and raise them. Even with my long list of flaws, he loves me and I love him.

Nov 6:

I’m grateful for my church. It has opened a door into a world I never knew I wanted for myself. I am truly amazed by the people it has brought into my life. I’m also grateful that I’m learning more about the BIBLE and it’s word, all of life’s questions are all answered in one book…if we just took the time to listen and do as it commands. I’m still learning and failing daily, but I know I’m loved by Jesus…for the bible tells me so.

 It’s true, I’m in a love affair with acorns. I was surfing Etsy one day and came across this beautiful necklace.

{click picture}

They are gorgeous! The class can be change into different colors, mostly birthstones. When I saw this I immediately wanted one.  I thought what better way to represent “boys” than acorns, they are rustic and outdoorsy {just like little boys}.

Than began the love affair

Aren’t they beautiful!

As you know I’m doing 30 Days of Grateful. Everyday this month I will be reminding myself of all the things I’m grateful for.Nov 4:

I’m grateful for my little brother Jimmy. I haven’t been the greatest big sister, but I do love him dearly. I will always remember the day he was born…

Walking home from school { I was in the 5th grade} seeing ambulances and firetrucks parked outside my house. There I was 10 and panicking, trying to figure out what was going on. Just than my mother was being wheeled out of the house holding a little boy.

Yup, born right in the house on the couch…the ole fashion way.

I love you ushky mushky man {he will get it}

Happy Birthday

::My Front Door::

I started this about 7 months ago {the sides were finished in a week…the top window is another story}.

This was inspired by a Pinterest Pin and the Jones Design Company painted wallpaper and painted door number tutorials.

The tutorial for this door will be posted shortly.

I’m just excited to share my newest finished project and I finished the top window{finally} at 31 1/2 weeks pregnant!

Day 4: Planned Menu & Dinner shopping list

OCMENU

I have a large family of 6. I plan every single meal we eat.

This helps keep our food bill low, and everyone fed.

Note: Rachel Ray says to cook in servings of 4…so if you are a family of 6 cook for 8 {extras and leftovers for lunch}

I make my shopping list using the list of ingredients for each meal. I than do an inventory of my pantry, freezer, and fridge { no need to buy it if I have it!}.

All the items for Dinner are from www.kraft.com.

::PRINT::SHOP::COOK::

Next week: MEALS found on Pinterest!

{click below for a PDF printout}

Feedback/comments on menu and meals would be great!

OH…We are not vegetarians, gluten free, paleo, or vegan eaters.

Day 3: The coolest spot in the house just GOT EVEN COOLER-Fridge Mats {tutorial}

DSC_0347

I was reading a favorite blog of mine {iheartorganizing} when I came across one of their post/giveaways. They were giving away FRIDGE COASTERS, what are fridge coasters you ask,

It’s these…

{via iheartorganizing}

AREN’T they the cutest thing ever!

I wanted some, so I went to the website {www.fridgecoasters.com}

They aren’t badly priced{$25} and you can get some really cool prints.

BUT

I FIGURED I CAN MAKE THESE..but out of what was the question.

Than it hit me…Cheap plastic place mats! I know what your thinking…GENIUS!

I went to walmart- they have cheap mats {$0.99}, but their prints aren’t to die for…enter TARGET {I should’ve know better- I’m a Target Snob}

Target had these for $1.99 a piece, I grabbed 4 {so my fridge coasters were $8 {plus tax}!

::FRIDGE MATS::

::SUPPLIES::

::sissors

::4 cool placemats

:measure JUST the glass NOTE: the place mat will not be the exact size of the glass, it’s a tad smaller. I just pulled it closer to the front::

:: use a non permanent marker so you can wipe off you line::

::kids drawing marker worked well::

::keep these scrap pieces for the side containers:

::you will need to trim them so they can fit properly::

::BEFORE::

::AFTER::

::CLOSE UP::

LADIES, your fridge is begging to be made over!

::yes we drink a lot of tea in this house::

What do you think?

Day 2: book pages + desk + modge podge =awesome {tutorial}

stain

When we started our company 6 years ago, we purchased all of our office furniture from Target. Buddy and I always comment on how well the furniture has held up, we even bought a matching coffee table. Isaac plays with his toys on it, he climbs on it…but you’d never know from looking at it. So, if kids don’t ruin this furniture… what does? You guessed it, MOMMA! Isaac was or I should say “is” in the phase of plugging and unplugging things in. I have plugins throughout the house, most I keep up high; except the one underneath my desk, and one day I found Isaac trying to play with it. Instantly I grabbed it, placed it on my desk and we left the office.  I normally don’t sit at my desk, I do more now with my new computer, and blogging…but back than not so much, so it was a good  week before I noticed this…

Yup, that’s right it fell over and leaked. You’d never guess that plugin oil would strip stain the way it does, it goes down to the wood {I’m not the only one who has done this, my friend M has done it too!}

So what do you do to fix it

re-stain it…no

paint it…I’m not so great at painting furniture soooo, no

cut a piece of wood the size of the desktop and paint that…ew ugly no.

So what do you do…oh yeah pile your crap all over your desk so you can’t see.

No there must be a better solution…

I had a great idea,I wanted to make sign for our office with our company’s name on it. My thought is to modge podge book paper to cardboard and than paint our logo on it. Than I thought, I wonder if I could modge podge paper to the top of my desk.

I DID

It turned about even better than I could have imagine!

Of course I’m married to Buddy Downer…so when he saw me in the process he quickly said “WHAT ARE YOU DOING??!!”

By the end he was signing my praise {which made me feel great} and even wants me to do his desk!

::SUPPLIES::

::Old Book::

::paint brush {not a foam brush}::

::Modge Podge::

Easy Peasy!!

{modge podge one side from corner to corner}

{flip it over, press it side down with your hand. Lift the paper  and modge podge directly underneath it}

{smooth firmly with hands again}

{lift corners an add modge podge where needed, re smooth with hand}

{repeat alternating paper directions. Also choose sheets that don’t have have chapter headings, as well as the half typed pages}

{DO make sure you pages are aligned with the edge of your desk, any pages that hang over are subject to getting ruined}

{Also your paper with not be completely flat, there will be some wrinkles, that’s okay they dry out smooth}

{once your desk is fully covered with pages, re modge podge the entire top}

{let it dry…for about 5-6 hours}

{while I was doing the desk, Isaac was doing this}

{Buddy is going to put a small coat of Poly urethane on top to make it more durable}

{decorate and enjoy!}

What do ya think?

Day 1: now that’s expired!

recap

::THE MEDICINE CABINET::

Am I the only one who has their “medicine cabinet” in the kitchen? Buddy believes they should be in the bathroom, because that’s where society tells us they should be so therefore that’s where it should be {if you know Buddy you wouldn’t be surprise about him thinking this way}. I’ve never understood why they’re in bathrooms, most all bobo’s are nursed in the kitchen. When you have to measure your meds you need a spoon or one of those syringe thingys…and they always need to be rinsed out. Also, when taking pills most people need a cup of water, it just makes more sense to keep everything in the kitchen. Without fail, I always have a screaming kid coming in from the garage into the kitchen with some kind of cut, scrape or bruise. Example, the day Aleigha slammed Kaleb’s fingers between the car door. Believe me it was an ugly sight, bloody hand, screaming kid…we needed ice, water, band-aides, and a sink because he was turning a bit grey {he’s got a record of throwing up when he sees his own blood}. A medicine cabinet in the bathroom…I think not, and on a side note, they are not cute {no offense to anyone who has one in their bathroom}.

While I was going through the cabinet, I couldn’t believe how much I actually threw out. Almost all of the meds were expired, some even expired in 2007. After this experience I realize that this really needs to be an annual thing, so I’ve made this part of my “SPRING CLEANING” ritual. Seriously though, expired medicine is very dangerous…we should all take a minute and do this.

{before}

{after}

I bought wire bins from the Dollar Tree {2 for $1.00}. There is nothing I hate more, than pulling everything out of a cabinet just to find one bottle. These bins totally eliminate that, now all we have to do is pull out the bin and all the meds are right there. I’m also very short {5’2″}, so getting to the back of the cabinets is very hard for me, especially the higher up items are.

::THE SPICE CABINET::

I actually had A LOT of fun with this. We have a cabinet on the side of our microwave that holds most of our spices, and  a lot of my go to items that I use most when I cook. I keep my salt and pepper in there, olive oil, Pam, sugar for our coffee, I mean our pantry isn’t far away but it’s nice to have those items right there near the stove. It also happens to hold every plastic spice bottle I own…and I also own a spice rack {it was a wedding gift from my friend Audrey}. The thing about this spice rack is, I hardly use the spices in it. Most of the recipes I use don’t call for those spices, they call for all the ones in my cabinet. That’s when it hit me {seriously, it just occurred to me to do this now}, I can dump all those spices that I don’t use out, and refill them with all the spices I do use, and re-label them.

{before}

{after}

::NOW THE FUN PART::

::NEW SPICE RACK::

{step 1: dump old spices, wash bottles, and dry overnight}

{use a piece of paper as a funnel and fill with new spices}

{recap}

{I used the JDC monthly label PDF I received in March 2012, they fit perfectly}

{cut}

{not perfect is the new perfect}

{re-label}

{stack back in the rack}

The new spices are so much more colorful, it’s so pretty, I feel like a bought a whole new spice rack!

On the side of this blog you will see a button that looks like this

There are lots of cool FREE PDF files and great ideas for back to school organization!

What do you think? Are you going to organize your cabinets next?
